PART 10: Special Issue on LANDSCAPE
for Spring 2003
Deadline for all submission for Part 10 materials:
December 30, 2002
Dr. Véronique Chagnon-Burke
will be the guest editor of the Spring 2003 issue of PART, which
will be devoted to the genre of landscape. We seek contributions
on landscape painting and landscape photography from any period,
including Land Art and Contemporary Art. We will not limit ourselves
to consider landscape painting and photography in the West. We particularly
welcome papers of an interdisciplinary nature or papers that consider
the representation of the relationship between human and nature,
dealing with issues such as ecology, tourism, travel, and collecting.
We invite all students, recent
graduates, and professionals to submit articles, reviews and practice
articles (check submission guidelines
to find out what your submission should be in). Hardcopies of the
guidelines are available in the student lounge of the Art History
Department of the CUNY Graduate Center. Please note: incomplete
submissions will be return to the author at the authors expense.
Please review the guidelines and the checklist carefully.
Completed submissions can be left in the PART mailbox in the department
lounge (above the students mailboxes to the right of the Student
Representatives mailboxes). Or you may mail submissions to

PART 11: Call for Papers
ART AFTER DARWIN
In the 120 years since the death of Charles
Darwin (1809-1882), the English naturalists lasting contribution
to our understanding of Nature and of ourselvesnatural selectionhas
been rejoiced and reviled, reformulated by some and rejected outright
by others. While the mechanics of evolution by natural selection
are far from being wholly understood even today, Darwins impact
on how the late 19th century sawand sometimes defendeditself
is undeniable. The task remains, however, to fully unveil the visual
impact of Darwinisms renewed construction of self. PART, the
online journal of the Art History Department of The Graduate Center
of the City University of New York, is planning a special issue
devoted to the notion of Art After Darwin, guest edited by Brian
Edward Hack.
PART is seeking art historical
papers dealing with the late 19th- and early 20th-century visual
implications of Darwinism following the publications of On the Origin
of Species (1859) and The Descent of Man (1871). Art-related articles
on Natural Selection, Genetics and Heredity, Ernst Haeckels
Monism, Spiritual Darwinism, Rudolf Steiners Anthroposophy,
Eugenics and Social Darwinism, Non-secular imagery in relation to
Darwinism, Organic Architecture, Expressions and Emotion, Degeneration
and Regeneration, and any other issues involving art's relationship
to the biological sciences of the period are welcome. All students,
recent graduates, and professionals of all disciplines are invited
to submit articles, reviews, and practice articles (check submission
guidelines to find out what your submission should be in).

11235. Deadline for Submissions is March 31, 2003.
